The Hanoi Tax Department advises residents to remain vigilant against scams and schemes that impersonate tax authorities

To: Taxpayers in Hanoi City
The Hanoi City Tax Department extends our warmest greetings and thanks you for your cooperation in complying with tax laws and regulations over the past period.
Recently, there has been an increasing trend in the frequency and severity of incidents involving individuals impersonating government officials, forging official notices, and fraudulently claiming to represent the Tax Authority, all with the intent to defraud and steal money from taxpayers.
The Hanoi City Tax Department recommends:
Currently, the Hanoi City Tax Department has only authorized the People’s Committees of wards, communes, and towns to collect non-agricultural land use taxes from households and individuals, and has authorized the Hanoi Post Office to collect taxes from business households in the districts of Thanh Tri, Dong Anh, Son Tay, Thanh Oai-Chuong My, Phuc Tho, and Phu Xuyen. The authorized collection agencies will issue receipts and collection documents in accordance with regulations to taxpayers.
The Hanoi City Tax Department advises taxpayers that when receiving text messages, tax payment notices, penalty decisions, etc., they should carefully review the content and avoid rushing to respond or follow the instructions in the message or notice. To avoid falling victim to fraud when conducting transactions with tax authorities or performing tax-related procedures, taxpayers may contact the designated officers at the Hanoi City Tax Department or local tax branches for assistance via the phone numbers published on the Hanoi City Tax Department’s official website.
If you receive messages on social media platforms or calls with signs of fraud, taxpayers should retain evidence such as messages or call recordings, report the matter to the telecommunications company managing the subscriber’s account to request action, and simultaneously provide the existing evidence to the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Public Security and the nearest tax office to request legal action against the perpetrators in accordance with the law.
